Francesc Xavier Puig i Oliveras (Girona, 1965) graduated from the School of Agricultural Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Since 1992 he has been member of the technical team of the Department of Environment of the Generalitat of Catalunya where he has developed his career, mainly in the field of planning and management of protected natural spaces, evaluation of environmental impact and urbanism. Since 2002 he is Director of the La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. Since 1996 he is associate professor of the course on Environmental Impact Assessment, attached to the Area of Ecology in the Department of Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Girona.

Inés Caballero (Palencia, 1979) graduated from the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM, UPM). She is an architect specialized on cultural managment, content strategy and digital curation. She founded Contextual-Sstudio on 2010, as a platform that, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, develops digital curation projects and digital platforms aimed for finding new narratives as well as preserving valuable cultural assets. Her research work is about technological formats, as ways of producing, transmitting and understanding culture, developing tools that help visualize, connect and analyze complex content and data sets from archives and repositories; from a mixed curatorial, architectural and technology perspective.

Josep Maria Mallarach


International expert in management and evaluation of protected natural spaces
Lecture The Meanings and Spiritual Values of Nature: Perception, Communication, Management and Integration in the cases of the Volcano Santa Margarida and of the Monastery of Santa Maria of Vallbona

Josep Maria Mallarach (Olot, 1955) has focused since 1977 most of his professional activity to planning, management and evaluation of protected natural spaces in Europe and the USA. He was the first director of La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park (1985-1991) and coordinated, together with Josep Germain, the first evaluation of the system of protected spaces of Catalonia, driven by the Catalan Institute for Natural History (2001-2003). He is member of the work group for the Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Management of Protected Spaces of the World Commission of Protected Areas of the IUCN. He edited the chapter on evaluation of the Plan of Action of protected natural spaces of the Spanish State (2002) and its first assessment in 2007. Since 2001 he is Professor of evaluation of the effectiveness of the protected natural spaces in the Master of protected natural areas of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Complutense University and the University of Alcalá de Henares. He has published six books and numerous articles on protected spaces, especially on criteria of evaluation and conservation of the natural world heritage. He is the founder of the non-profit association Silene, established in Catalonia, dedicated to study, disseminate and promote spiritual and cultural heritage and its inherent values, especially in relation to nature, conservation, and protected natural areas.

Ivan Pintor (Barcelona, 1975) holds a PhD in Audiovisual Communication.  He is Professor of the Department of Communication of the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF), and has taught at universities in Italy, Argentina and Colombia. He has contributed in more than thirty books, among them Oshima (2013), La Strada di Fellini (Liguori, 2013), Poetics of Gesture in Contemporary Cinema (intermediate, 2013), Todas las cartas (CCCB, 2012), The Cinema of Julio Medem (Publications of the Sorbonne), Universe Lynch (Festival of Sitges) or Naomi Kawase (Filmoteca). He has directed numerous cycles for the Caixaforum, as well as the congress Mutations of Gesture (UPF, 2012). He has directed various audiovisuals for museums and television and writes regularly in the culture supplement of the newspaper La Vanguardia.
