Francesc Xavier Puig i Oliveras

Director of the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa

Francesc Xavier Puig i Oliveras (Girona, Spain, 1965) is an agronomist by the Higher Technical School of Agricultural Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Since 1992 he has been part of the technical team of the Department of Environment of the Generalitat de Catalunya where he has developed his professional career, mainly in the field of planning and management of protected natural areas, environmental impact assessment and urban planning. Since 2002 he is director of the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa. Since 1996 he is an associate professor in the subject of environmental impact assessment, assigned to the Ecology area of the Department of Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Girona.

Founders of RCR Arquitectes

Rafael Aranda (Olot, Spain, 1961), Carme Pigem (Olot, Spain, 1962) and Ramon Vilalta (Vic, Spain, 1960) finished their studies at the Vallès Higher Technical School of Architecture in 1987 and since 1988 they work together, under the name of RCR Arquitectes, in their hometown Olot with a team formed by their side. Since 1989 they are consulting architects of the Natural Park of the Volcanic Zone of La Garrotxa and have been professors and members of the PFC tribunal at the Vallès Superior School of Architecture (ETSAV) and Barcelona (ETSAB). They have convened and directed since 2008 the RCR International Workshop in their studio located at the headquarters of the former Barberí foundry, from its RCR Lab · A laboratory structure.

Son Premio Pritzker 2017, Medalla de Oro de la Académie d’Architecture Française 2015, Officiers y Chevaliers de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française 2014 y 2008, miembros honoríficos por el RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects 2012, miembros honoríficos por la AIA American Institute of Architecture 2010, y Premio Nacionalde Cultura de Arquitectura 2005 de la Generalitat de Cataluña.

They have been awarded with the Pritzker Prize 2017, the Gold Medal of the Académie d’Architecture Française 2015, they are Officiers and Chevaliers de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the République Française 2014 and 2008, Honorary Members of the RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects 2012, Honorary Members of the AIA American Institute of Architecture 2010, and National Prize for Architecture Culture 2005 of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

In 2017, they created the RCR Lab·A laboratory for research and in 2013 the RCR BUNKA foundation to stimulate the valuation for architecture, landscape, arts and culture.

They have participated in international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennial (2000, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018); In 2006, On-Site: New Architecture in Spain at the MOMA in New York and Madrid. His work has been seen in individual exhibitions, being the most recent RCR Arquitectes. Shared Creativity at the 1st Euskadi Architecture Biennial in San Sebastián 2017-2018, with venues in 2016 at the ICO Museum in Madrid and in 2015 at the Palau Robert in Barcelona.

Their work has been widely published in books and magazines, highlighting the monographs of El Croquis, nº 115/116 (III), nº138 (V), nº 162 (IV), nº 190 (III) and compendium 1998-2012, of Madrid ; AV nº 137, nº 175, of Madrid; A + U nº 542, nº 549, from Japan and the book “RCR Aranda Pigem Vilalta Arquitectes. Between abstraction and Nature” by Gustavo Gili, Barcelona.

Their works include the Tossols Basil Athletics Stadium in Olot, the Bell-lloc wineries in Palamós, the restaurant, the marquee and the Pavilions of Les Cols in Olot, all of them in Spain, the Soulages Museum in Rodez, France, and the Waalse Krook media library in Belgium.

Audiovisual Communicator, Founder of BroadcardFilms

Júlia de Balle (Barcelona, Spain, 1986) has a degree in audiovisual communication from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona (2009). After finishing his studies in Berlin he returns to his hometown of Olot and joins the team of RCR Arquitectes, first as a communication coordinator and then as an audiovisual creative. She has directed and co-directed two documentaries and currently combines works for external clients as a filmmaker and editor with her own projects. She is tutor of the workshop since the first edition.

Inés Caballero (Palencia, Spain, 1979) is an architect from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM, UPM), specializing in cultural management, content strategy and digital curating. She founded Contextual-Studio in 2010, as a platform from which, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, she develops content projects and digital platforms with the aim of preserving valuable cultural assets and creating new narratives. Research on new technological formats to produce, transmitting and understanding culture, developing tools that help to visualize, connect and analyze complex contents and large data sets of files and repositories; through a vision that unites the curatorship, architecture and technology.

PhD in Audiovisual Communication 

Ivan Pintor (Barcelona, Spain, 1975) holds a PhD in Audiovisual Communication. He is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and has taught at universities in Italy, Argentina and Colombia. He has contributed in more than thirty books, among which Oshima (2013), La Strada di Fellini (Liguori, 2013), Poetics of the gesture in contemporary cinema (Intermediate, 2013), All letters (CCCB, 2012), Le Cinéma de Julio Medem (Publications de la Sorbonne), Lynch Universe (Sitges Festival) or Naomi Kawase (Film Library). He has directed numerous cycles for CaixaFórum, as well as the congress Mutaciones del gesture (UPF, 2012). He has made several audiovisual pieces for museums and television and writes regularly in the Cultura / s supplement of La Vanguardia.

Miguel Ángel Camacho (Madrid, Spain, 1951) holds a degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid in Geography and History, Modern and Contemporary History Specialty. He has been Technical Director at the National Center for New Scenic Trends (1990/1994), Assistant to the Technical Directorate at the National Dramatic Center, María Guerrero Theater (1995), Technical Director of the National Dance Company (1997/1998) and Technical Director of the National Classical Theater Company (2004/2010). He has made lighting designs for the National Dance Company, National Center for New Scenic Trends, National Dramatic Center, Dramatic Center of Aragon, National Theater of Catalonia, Teatro de Ia Zarzuela, Andalusian Theater Center, Classical Theater Company, Spanish Theater and private theater, dance and opera festivals. He has received two Max Awards for Best Lighting for Luces de Bohemia and El viaje de Parnaso.

Since 1997, he has been a professor of lighting at the Royal Superior School of Dramatic Arts in Madrid (RESAD). He has taught lighting courses at the Universities of La Laguna, Laboral de Gijón, Carlos lll of Madrid, Santiago de Compostela and Salamanca, at the Center for Show Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the Center for Scenic Studies of Seville , the Association of Stage Directors, for the Diputación de Vizcaya (Euskalduna Palace) and for the Madrid City Council.

He is founding member of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain in 2014 and member of the Board of Directors. During 2017, he has coordinated the publication of the volume La luz, melodía del arte escénico of the Arts and Crafts collection of the scene published by the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain, with the participation of eleven lighting professionals with a recognized career.

Architect and Editor

Tomoko Sakamoto (Tokyo, Japan, 1973) is an architect, designer and founding partner of spread. She is an architect from the University of Waseda in Tokyo and arrived in Barcelona to collaborate with EMBT Arquitectos Asociados with the Bunka-cho grant from the Japanese Government (1998-2001). From 2000 to 2012 she worked as an editor of books on architecture, design and art at Actar publishing house and founded in 2012 spread studio together with David Lorente. Since then she has worked on several editorial projects and exhibitions with the photographer Hisao Suzuki, among them for the a+u magazine and the monographic exhibition on RCR “Geography of Dreams” in the MA Gallery in Tokyo, and has designed several books such as the catalogue of the Mies Award 2019, 2017 and 2015 of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation or “Plans and Projectes per a Barcelona 2011-2015”.
